If you travel for business, or if you are planning a vacation, don’t forget to take care of your teeth while you are traveling.
Before you hit the road, see your dentist for a cleaning and a checkup. Your dentist can address any small problems that could become big problems while you are on vacation. Make sure that you have your dentist’s phone number with you. If you have a dental emergency or develop a problem, you can contact the dentist’s office for a consultation and if necessary a referral. If you will be traveling overseas, know how to get in touch with the US embassy.
While you are in your hotel, keep your toothbrush clean and dry. Let your toothbrush air-dry after using it, and don’t leave it on the sink or the counter of the hotel bathroom. After your toothbrush is dry, place it in a resealable plastic bag. Keep the cap on your toothpaste, and keep it in a sealed bag as well. You might consider traveling with disposable toothbrushes, or investing in travel toothbrushes.
If you forget to pack your toothbrush, you can use toothpaste on a clean washcloth or even your finger until you can make a stop at a store to buy toothbrush.
Eating healthy snacks when you travel, like carrots, broccoli, or apple slices are not only good for you, but will also help scrub the bacteria and food debris from your teeth. Drinking plenty of water will help ensure that your mouth stays hydrated and free of bacteria.
You should enjoy your time off, but don’t take time off from dental hygiene. If you are getting ready for a vacation and would like a checkup and some dental travel tips, or if it is just time for your regular visit, we would love to see you.
